Crinkled Oranges

It has

Been a long time since I made home made bread that you can slice thick and add butter and honey.

My sweet Visiting Teacher brought it over today and I had it fresh out of the oven.

And Gary was in heaven having milk toast for dinner. (For wondering minds, milk toast is thick sliced bread that is toasted, spread with butter, covered with hot milk, and salt and peppered)

We had a

New bishopric put in today. They were having a "Meet and Greet" this evening  to thank the old and welcome the new.  I ran into Bishop McKay at Costco last night and asked him what his favorite cupcakes were.  One he mentioned was carrot cake, so I baked those as well as strawberry today for the party.

However, it wasn't one of my better days in the kitchen. First, I added the cinnamon only to realize it wasn't cinnamon but rather taco seasoning.  I threw that out and started over. I'm just grateful I realized my mistake before I baked them. But, when the new batch was in the oven baking, I realized that I had forgotten to add the crushed pineapple.   They were ok but would have tasted better with the pineapple.

Just one of those days . . .

It's the big 40

for Misty today.  Amazing.  That is what she was then, and she is even more so now.

Here are pictures of my journal entry two days after she was born.  Forty years ago, no one but the mom and dad were able to hold the babies in the hospital.  A lot has changed in 40 years, but not the love and appreciation we have for our oldest daughter.

I'll just translate a little of the joy:  (I sound a little childish, but I guess I was still a bit of a child myself at 21)

I can honestly say that today is one of the happiest days of my life.  It's 7 am in the morning, and I'm sitting in room 303 of the Utah Valley Hospital.  I just finished  showering and washing my hair, and before that I was nursing the most beautiful little baby girl in the world.  I just can't say how much I already love her.  When I sit and look at her make her different faces and the expressions, I just marvel.  I've got to be the luckiest girl in the world!
I just don't know what I would have done without Gary through all the labor and delivery.  He stayed by my side the whole time and gave me so much comfort and reassurance.  Last night when he came to see her and hold her for the first time since delivery, he was so cute.  I could have just stared at him holding her all night.   He watches her so closely and worries if she starts to cry a little.  It's hard to explain, really, but it's something very special . . .
Yesterday when the grandparents came, it was so neat.  When they brought her up the to window to be looked at, she was just screaming her head off and did for most of the whole time.  She really put on a good show!
Thank you for 40 joyful years, Misty!

I wasn't sure

Until the last minute that I was coming up to Salt Lake with Gary while he did the stats for the football game. But he dropped me off, and here is my view as I wait for him. A beautiful Utah summer evening.

I made

Some progress on cleaning out the desk area in the family room. I'm feeling some (not so gentle) tugs to jump back into family history.  Here is a beginning.

1,690

When I got on the computer, with no great ideas of what to blog about,  I noticed that the blog info showed I had made 1,689 posts since my first post in 2008.

Voilà (As Piorot would say).  That was the answer.  Reaching post 1,690 was at least something interesting to blog about.

P.S.  It's not like I'm not having any deep thoughts or meaningful things happening in my life.  It's more like I'm too lazy to take the time to put them in writing.

I spent the

Afternoon helping Gary get his Hall Of Fame  updated.   Next year will be the last time, if all goes as planned.
