Good-bye

to "Bees" on my Rotating Shelf.

Natalie has great reservation with my "Bee" or "Beehive" collection.  She is petrified of Bees.  While I don't like bees, I do love the idea of the beehive (Utah's symbol is the beehive because it represents industry).  I also like the idea of "bee-ing"

My favorite items in my "Bee Collection" are the aprons I made from tea towels that Mom made me for my "trousseau."  (That's a word I haven't heard in a long time)

I cut the embroidery part from the well used dishtowels and used them in the aprons.

General conference tradition

Nat and Trent better hurry or there won't be any left

Saturday, October 5, 2013

I love general conference weekend.

Today I made big messes making cupcakes and cutting on the cricut machine.  Then we went to dinner. During the Priesthood session, I went to Ladie's night out at Tai Pan Trading.  It was fun, because they have drawings for prizes (though I didn't win anything).

But the best part, of course, are the messages of hope and promise.  And today was full of those.

Sometimes when

I hear of the difficulties people are going through, I feel very sheltered.  Or spoiled.  Or even shallow.

Because I am always amazed at the strength people show through very hard times.  Times of loss, worry, and of stress about what they or their loved ones are going through.   I've talked with several friends today whose burdens and responsibilities are heavy.   I admire their willingness to share their feelings, as I tend to be very private and proud.  I know sometimes that makes me more more detached than I want to be.

Sometimes all you can do is listen.   And you can pray.   And you can do little things to let them know you care.  I think there is great power in those things.   I want to harness that power more in my life.

A good day to . . .

get my annual mammogram.  Freebies because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

It was also a good day to go to Chili's.  Although, it seems that we make our way there at least every other week.  Gary feels very special that he gets a personal email coupon from them for a free appetizer.  We always get the chips and queso    Then we share a meal and walk out with another meal.  And Gary always scrapes the pan very, very clean.  In fact, he doesn't like me to do it because I'm not quite as fussy about it.

I'm happy to have him do it.

Ok, to make some sense of the

upside down pictures with friends in st. George.

After the Stake Primary meeting at 9 Thursday night, Joni, Patty, and I headed down to St. George to join the others and got in about 1:30 am.  We didn't even notice the lateness because we had so much fun talking.

The next day, all eleven of us went to St George temple.

With the matching 1970's temple suitcases

Not sure why we took this picture,
but we were comparing nail polish.

We went on a hike to and saw some cool petroglyphs.

   We went to the dinner

Went to the Tuacahn Outdoor Theater to see Mary Poppins.  Mary Poppins was our friend Analee's sister, so we got a personal tour of the back stage after the play.

Saturday was a bit more relaxed because I bowed out of the very intensive hike that most of the others went on.

Here is why I was very happy I didn't go on the hike.  Narrow canyons, wading through freezing water, climbing up rope ladders . . .

But 3 of us went shopping and to lunch and had a great time.  Then we all watched the RS Women's conference together.

Patty made this beautiful quilt to thank Robin for sharing her house with us.

Then it was home again at 6 am on Sunday morning.

It was such a wonderful time with wonderful friends.
