a common phrase I’ve heard and used all my life. For my grandchildren, or those who may have never heard that phrase, it basically means that after all is said and done, or after it is all over, what really matters is ______(fill in the blank). For me, it all boils down to the people I am blessed to have in my life.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad
I always remember my parents on this day, January 8. They were married 72 years ago today, in 1937. I feel so very blessed to have been born into their home and into my family. I always felt loved and cared for, with just the right amount of expectation to do my best, but also unconditional acceptance. Dad's been gone for 17 years now and Mom for 15, but they are ever present in my mind and heart.

Our eternal family. After our children leave home to begin their own families, we still yearn after them with care and concern and celebration. Once a parent, always a parent. And it works in both directions -- the influence our own parents have on us, even after they have left the earth. What wonderful parents you have!
This same date, January 8, marks the birthday of my great grandmother who was born in 1880. I knew her well because she didn't pass until I was 25. She, too, has had a great influence in my life.
